Debbie Johnson - Biography
Biography:
Born and raised in Greenville, Michigan, Debbie is the youngest of five siblings. She was greatly influenced and encouraged by her artistic parents and her high school art teacher, Tom Blinn. She is the mother of two grown children and step-mom of three grown children. She worked in graphic design and technical illustration for nearly 25 years.
In February 2004, with children in college and on their own, Debbie transitioned from commercial art to fine art. With encouragement from friends and family Debbie began showing her artwork at street fairs and local galleries. In 2008, Debbie and her husband moved to Melbourne, Florida, where her artwork is growing in style and subject matter.
Debbie’s watercolors blend her passion for painting and her love of nature to capture the fleeting moments of beauty the world provides. Her realistic works depict garden scenes, florals, nautical scenes, nature, and figure studies.
Since 2005, Debbie has been teaching watercolor painting and conducting workshops. She focuses on technique which helps her students master watercolor and develop their own personal style.
She is available for commissions as well as workshops, garden tours and speaking engagements.
You can find her work currently featured at several galleries throughout Michigan, Ohio and Florida.
Artist Statement
Art has been a vital part of my life since I was first able to pick up a crayon. Painting and drawing are the methods I use to study the world around me. Experiencing the process of painting is just as important to me as the beauty of the finished piece. My paintings are simply a record of my journey in the observation process.
Debbie teaches drawing and watercolor classes and workshops. Her Beginner's Watercolor Workshop DVD can be purchased at Art & Antique Studio Gallery.
