Light and Shadow, for me, are the integral parts of any painting. Light, and of course, its counterpart shadow, make for interesting patterns that are enhanced by the beauty of watercolor. While each painting must have intense, vibrant color, it is in the "playing with light" where I lose myself and let the painting expand. I am fascinated by light and shadow and truly believe this will continue to influence by style for many years to come.
About the Artist
Cynthia Perry has been involved with the Arts her entire life. She studied Art, Literature, and Romance Languages at the University of Colorado and then pursued a Masters Degree at Florida State University.
She spent several years studying and living in France, Italy and Great Britain. While living in Europe, she immersed herself in the Art and Culture of the area. She viewed many of the ìGreat Mastersíî works as ìtraveling exhibitsî and in museums, and feels very fortunate to have had that experience.
Always drawn to create, she has worked in different mediums before exploring watercolor. Previously, she has been recognized for her ëwheel throwní porcelain pottery while working out of her own studio in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. At that time, she was an active member of the Foothills Craft Guild and exhibited her pottery in many area galleries and craft shows. She also danced with the Tennessee Festival Ballet and performed Swan Lake, the Nutcracker, Cinderella, Les Sylphides, Giselle, as well as many other ballets.
Bringing all these different facets to her watercolors, she is now enthralled with light and shadow. A favorite subject is wildlife. Birds especially are magical creatures, but any subject she paints will show a luminous light. By ìplaying with lightî, she shows the beauty of her subjects in a unique manner, and truly hopes the viewer will stop to breathe, contemplate, and most of all enjoy each of her paintings.
Cynthia Perry is an active member of the Brevard Watercolor Society, the Strawbridge Art League, and the Brevard Cultural Alliance. She has participated in both juried and non-juried shows. Her work has been exhibited at the Kennedy Space Center, the King Center for the Performing Arts, the Henegar Center, Florida Institute of Technology, and many other public buildings including libraries and government facilities. Her work can currently be seen at the Art and Antique Studio in downtown Eau Gallie.
