Artist Statement

"In the business of everyday life, logic often dominates. I believe that art should hint at the mystery that underpins all of life.
It should speak the language of the heart. To paint is to co-create with God."

While growing up in Hillsdale, N.J., some of Barbara's earliest memories include the love of paintnig and drawing, but it was only after graduating from Duke University in 1970 and while teaching Latin in the Virginia public school system that she began to pursue her real passion...art. Working in oil, watercolor, pastels and mixed media, she studied with such nationally known teachers as John Brady, Florence Thomas, Ray Yoder and Charles McCurry of the Ringling School of Art. In the summer of 1978, she studied painting and drawing at the Slade School of Art in London.

A signature member of the American Impressionist Society, Barbara has received numerous awards and her work is represented in both corporate and private collections including the Workman's Federal Savings and Loan of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Wytheville Community College in Wytheville, Virginia, Wildacres Retreat Center in Little Switzerland, North Carolina, and the Melbourne International Airport, Melbourne, Florida.

Barbara enjoys painting the Florida scenes she has come to know and love, but she also paints portraits as well as murals and gladly accepts commissions. She is represented by the Art and Antique Studio, 1419 Highland Avenue in the Eau Gallie Arts District, Melbourne, Florida,
321-253-5553.
