Don Martin was born in Chattanooga, TN and grew up in Daytona Beach, FL. After a four year tour of duty with the U.S. Navy, Don moved to the northern suburbs of Boston, MA and spent over thirty years there raising his family and operating his own dental laboratory. The laboratory specialized in oral reconstruction with the use of osseous integrated dental implants. In 2001 Don and his wife Anne moved to Palm Coast, FL and continued to operate the dental laboratory in a new facility in Palm Coast. In 2014 Don retired from his business and in 2015 built a new home in Viera, FL where he currently resides.
Don’s interest in photography began early on in his dental career. As an International lecturer and author he took thousands of macro, intraoral and extra oral photos of his implant specialty to be used in his technical presentations and publications. After retirement Don continued his interest in photography but with the emphasis on his surroundings and varied interests. From long exposure night photography, HDR stacking of multiple shots, travel photography, to the wildlife that resides next door to him at the Viera Wetlands, Don approaches his photography with the same excitement and precision he had found in dentistry.
Don is a member of the Camera Club Of Brevard and currently serves as Vice-President/Program Director. Don’s photography has won numerous awards from the Camera Club Of Brevard, Florida Camera Club Council, Southern Photo, Digital Photo Magazine and Outdoor Photographer magazine. In 2016 his photo “Evening Fun” taken at the Viera Fair was the recipient of the “Peoples Choice” award from the international competition “Sports And Leisure” sponsored by Digital Photo magazine.
Dons other interests have included building a 1932 Ford five window coupe, and competing for over ten years on the National Competition BBQ circuit. Don is also a USCG licensed charter captain and IGFA Captain/Guide.
